THE BUFFALO BILLS

I posted about the Bills once in my old blog, but that was many, many years ago--one year, seven months, and fifteen days ago, if I'm not mistaken. The Buffalo Bills have played 32 regular season games since then. And yet, not a lot has changed. At the time of that post, the Bills were coming off of a bad season, but big things were clearly in the future. Just like in each of the past ten years, Buffalo is abuzz with the sensation that a winning season is just around the corner. Things are really looking up in Buffalo!

Of course, not all is well. The Bills have lost several of their all-star, pro-bowl MVP-caliber players in these last two seasons. Some players have moved on to better things; others still have passed from this world. Star wide receiver Terrell Owens (pictured, right) is no longer with the Bills. He spent one highly productive season with them in 2009. He is no longer playing football, but word on the street is the Bills are interested in his services! The Mighty Bills have also lost their prized quarterback, Trent Edwards, to free agency; he was picked up by those wily rivals of the Bills, the Jacksonville Jaguards. Ex-Bill running back J.P. Losman made his return to Buffalo--but not as a Bill! He has found great success starting with the Miami Dolphins, who made a rare visit to Buffalo, where they won 31-24 as Losman torched the Bills. No word on whether trade talks have begun to try to win him back.

The Bills had a rare 6-win season in 2011, and they're looking to ride the momentum into next year and increase that number to nine; maybe even ten, depending on whether they can sign prized free agents Brett Favre and Wes Welker.

Other than that, not much is new with the Bills. Owner Ralph Wilson is one year and seven months older, as are all the players (even the ones who weren't on the Bills at that time). Much like in 2010, Fred Jackson and Ryan Fitzpatrick are leading the way into the future in 2012! Fitzpatrick signed a new contract last year, guaranteeing highly inconsistent football at a high price. But the faithful management in Buffalo wouldn't have it any other way. Fred Jackson lost most of the 2011 season to an injury, which he is hoping will last until the end of his contract.

The Lovely Bills still have their prized logo, pictured to... uh... let's see... to the left.

They also still have that moxie and panache that has been making Bills fans show up to some of the games for years.

And of course, even when they don't have the fans, which is frequently the case, they still have each other: their Bills teammates. And they also still have their faithful and handsome owner Ralph Wilson. He's still got it, that's for sure! He may be too old to understand most of what's even going on, both on and off the field, but he's still the "man with the plan", as they say. And what's the plan behind the man? Drafting players from Southern states who have no experience in cold weather. And it worked! Well, sort of. Anyway, Go Ralph! Keep up that masterful aging of yours!

That's all the news there is for this edition of my posting about my favorite football team. The next Bills game isn't for another seven months or so, but I hope you can attend. I know I'LL be there!

One last thought:

GO BILLS!
